Animal Essentials Earns National Certified Organic Status

March 3, 2011
Animal Essentials Inc. Receives Organic Certification

Animal Essentials Inc., a manufacturer of natural animal supplements based in Victor, Montana has recently been granted an Organic Handler Certificate by the Montana Department of Agriculture, allowing the company to use the USDA National Organic seal on qualifying products. To qualify for the certificate, companies must complete a lengthy and intensive process by which they must demonstrate a willingness and ability to comply with USDA's National Organic Program Standards. The standards are in place to assure that they will properly process, label and store organic products.
"Our decision to pursue organic certification is motivated by a growing audience of consumers that want the same quality for their pets that they demand for themselves and their families," states Animal Essentials president, Greg Tilford, "The program requires us to verify and maintain the quality and cleanliness of any organic ingredient we use--- from the field where it is grown to finished product."
Animal Essentials Inc. also holds the Certificate of Best Manufacturing Practices from the National Animal Supplements Council (NASC), a designation that allows them to use the NASC Quality Seal on product labels. "Being a fully compliant member of NASC shows our customers that we are committed to the highest current standards of quality in the industry today," says Tilford. To qualify as a full fledge member of NASC a manufacturer must pass a rigorous, independent audit of their quality assurance systems and facilities.

Our Calcium Has a Bright New Look!

November 22, 2010
We have redesigned and renamed our calcium supplement. Formerly known as "Calcium from the sea", our new label is brighter, more colorful, and now bears the name "Natural Seaweed Calcium". We made these changes for two reasons:  1)  to better inform purchasers of what this product really is: a highly digestible calcium supplement, derived from seaweed that is harvested from the seabed off the south coast of Ireland, and 2) to bring the label into compliance with State and Federal regulations. Nothing in the product has changed--- it is still the pure, high quality, analytically tested supplement we have sold for many years. However, some of you might notice that a few of the guaranteed analysis values appear different,  and a few have been added--- such as "ash".  "Ash" is a rather generic term that pertains to the dry materials in a product.  We added this, along with "moisture" and "sodium" to the analysis panel to comply with current labeling requirements. The nutrient values of the product (expressed in mg, mcg, ppm, etc.) that appear in the Guaranteed Analysis panel of the new label are now  smaller (eg., potassium is now 1 mg as opposed to 3 mg) because we are  expressing minimum nutrient levels, as opposed to the average values we used to express on the older labels.

Most important of all, you can  rest assured that Seaweed Calcium is the same wonderful supplement that used to be called "Calcium from the Sea".   It is highly recommended for dogs and cats that are on a raw food diet.

Menhaden (fish oil) Fishery Doing Well in Wake of Gulf Oil Spill

July 21, 2010
A new article posted at PetFoodConnection.com reports that Menhaden fish populations in the Gulf of Mexico are doing well, despite the BP oil spill disaster. This is very good news... even though our Menhaden oil is sourced from fish that are harvested off the Virginia and North Carolina coasts, we remain vigilant of the impact that this disaster might have upon the species as a whole. Our concern is that fishing closures in the Gulf might add additional fishing pressure on Atlantic populations of these oily little fishes. So far it appears that this hasn't happened, and the Menhaden fishery appears healthy and sustainable. Regardless, we will be monitoring the situation closely.
